Iron Goliath
An couple of hours before dawn...
Something awoke Loni with a start. She'd been having a dream, whether it had been a minute ago or hours, it was impossible to say. It was one of those frightening dreams where you run down the hallway trying to escape someone or something, your legs moving slower and slower, your heart racing faster and faster. But just before the unseen, nameless terror caught her, she was wrapped in a warm feeling, like a blanket had been wrapped around her, protecting her from the cold. Loni looked around, momentarily taken aback by the unfamiliar surroundings. Not that much had been overly familiar these last few weeks, but this wasn't the room at Dave and Lily's home where she had been staying these last few days. Then she saw Alex's face on the pillow next to her and smiled. Disentangling herself from his arms, she stepped out of the room, picking up articles of clothing along the way.
Fully dressed, she was out on the street moments later, her rocket-board charged up and beneath her feet. Activating the foot controls, she took off at a dizzying speed, zipping along between and over the rooftops, heading for Dave and Lily's place. She could almost see Dave's disapproving glare and Lily's secret smile (or maybe it would be Lily giving her the "mother" look and Dave grinning... who knew?). She hoped Alex would read the note she left on the Post-It stickied to his laptop and call her later.
The briefest of flashes caught Loni's eye as she neared the building that her dear friends lived in; just a bit of moonlight on a lens, coming from a nearby rooftop. "Clockwork, maybe?" she thought as she angled the board. The infernal little robots were always on the roofs, disassembling air conditioner equipment to get stuff for their little projects. Flaring the board up just before hitting the roof, Loni leapt nimbly off. The fact that she wasn't surrounded by Big G's comforting-yet-oh-so-hot metal body was only a brief concern. She crept towards where she thought she had seen the flash, but the roof was empty. "I guess my paranoia is kicking in" she mumbled to herself. Then she heard it... the crunch of a boot on gravel coming from somewhere behind her.
"Hey! Wait a minute!" she cried out as she ran toward the noise. "I know you're there!" It didn't dawned on her just how stupid it was for her to shout out like that, not at first. But hindsight is always 20/20 as they say. Loni sprinted around a large AC unit...only to run smack into an extended arm. She sprawled onto the roof, stunned, her nose beginning to bleed. Someone stood over her, she couldn't see anything between the darkness and the fogginess in her brain. "Stupid girl," she heard a voice mutter. "You don't know just how lucky you are tonight." Then fast-moving footsteps followed by groans which she realized were coming from her. Slowly recovering, she retrieved her rocket-board and used it to get down to street level. Then she opened her cellphone and hit the speed-dial listening for the phone to connect. "Lily? It's Loni. I know. I know. I'm sorry. Hey, I'm down on the street, right out front. Can you come here? And bring Dave. He's gonna want to hear this..."

Lily Blue
Lily had not been able to get back to sleep after Dave left in the dark hours of the morning to go work out. In fact she had been restless most of the night as Dave slept like a log. She had just made a cup of chamomile lemongrass tea hoping that it would calm her nerves and help her get at least a couple hours of sleep. She was wrapped up in her favorite quilt sipping tea in the dark on the sofa in her parlor. She had spent the previous afternoon shopping with her daughter Quasi and they decided to have dinner out. All day she had felt like they were being watched and on the train ride home she spotted him. An average looking man in jeans and a navy jacket. The only thing that stood out about him is that nothing stood out. She guessed she would have never noticed him if it weren't for her psychic ability. Their eyes briefly met as the trained pulled up to the station and the doors opened, he exited the train and she lost him in the crowd at University Station. She would have persued him if Quasi had not been with her.
She wasn’t surprised to know she was being watched but the reality of hit her because it was not just she and Dave that were at risk. What affected them also affected Quasi and Dave’s brother and sister Jayson and Samantha. Also she worried about the newest members of the Dawn Patrol. Dave had Alex working on recovering deleted files from DOGMA and Loni had barely had any training at all. Sure she was more than capable when piloting G but if she was vulnerable when not suited up. Dave did his best to calm her to no avail and she was a bit annoyed with him that he could fall asleep so easily while she tossed and turned.
With her promotion she felt responsible for the safety and guidance of the new recruits. She had always strove to look out for and help them as much as she could it just weighed more heavily on her now, especially since Lady Victoria had informed them of the tape she found and what it contained. They were sitting atop a powder keg and Lily prayed for it not to explode.
Lily jumped up at the sound of her cell phone the upbeat tune filled her with a sense of foreboding as calls at this hour were not usually good news. She picked up the phone and placed it to her ear.
"Hello"
"Lily? It's Loni. I know. I know. I'm sorry. Hey, I'm down on the street, right out front. Can you come here? And bring Dave. He's gonna want to hear this..."
"Dave isn't here. I'll be right down."

Scarlet Scorpion
In the rusted ruins of Crey’s Folley
Hunter is now hunted.
As soon as she saw the video, she knew things would be different. With Darling’s capture and discovery as an agent, Scarlet’s world seemed to flip over. Being followed by a secret operative was not foreign to the Scarlet Scorpion. Not that it was a frequent occurrence, but those times it was over some specific investigation. Now it seems the entire Dawn Patrol in Paragon City was under surveillance. The trick was trying to figure out who exactly was the source of this particular operative.
And with as many enemies the Dawn Patrol has made over the decades, coupled with the most recent revelations … it could be literally be anyone.
But tonight, Scarlet was going to find out.
After her visit with Marsius, she started contacting some sources outside of Paragon. Only one could provide any trail Scarlet could use, and even that information was tenuous.
Metal creaked above her.
Scarlet turned her head slightly and grinned. Gotcha.
She willed herself to fly straight up, backed up and dropped onto the scaffolding. The dark figure was already on the run and had a decent lead. His suit looked sophisticated yet simple, like the ninjas of ancient Japan.
“Not good enough.” Stepping forward, she collected the ambient sound waves and focused them into a sonic weapon. She spread her arms and willed the audio javelin forward. At the speed of sound, the bolt seemed to graze the prey at the shoulder and dissipate. The ninja tipped forward as if losing control, but his arms grappled the railing and his fall was actually a controlled escape.
Scarlet cursed and jumped over as well, willing flight to stop her freefall. She witnessed the dark quarry tuck in his arms and legs then vanished suddenly with a pop.
The hunter was alone with no answers.

Battledog
Battledog felt bad about lying to Lily but it was for her and his safety. As he lie under the slate gray cloth, he watched his prey stealthily creep along the roof. The cameras his siblings planted had done their jobs well and pinpointed his target's favorite observation post. It had taken most of the day and evening to shake the target so he could get into position. Now Dave waited in ambush. He stilled his breath as the barely heard footsteps crept closer, then past him. He tensed as his prey settled into its position. Dave exploded into action. Leaping out from under the cloth, he lead with elbow. His quarry rolled instinctively away from the attack, kipped up to its feet, and adopted a defensive stance, even as Dave launched a strong one-two series of jabs. His quarry deftly blocked the attacks with ease and launched a roundhouse kick aimed at Dave's knees. Dave bent the leg slightly to absorb the blow and quickly trapped his prey's foot. The prey reacted just as fast and spun its other foot through the air at Dave's head. He cursed as he reliquished the hold and rolled forward to avoid the blow. He pivoted and connected with a knee to his target's sternum, as it rose from the ground. It grunted in pain, reached inside its tunic, and threw a trio of slim blades at Dave. Raising his arm into a block, Dave hissed as one of the blades embedded into his forearm. The other two blades passed harmlessly around him but achieved their true purpose of distracting Dave from his target. Dave's prey sprinted full speed along the rooftops, leaping to the next closest flat surface. With a quick yank, Dave pulled the blade from his arm and aimed. He threw the blade at the escaping quarry and sunk the blade into its thigh. The quarry, thrown off balance, tumbled of the roof onto the street below and a feminine scream cut through the night air. Dave cursed again. He speedily made his way down to the street and almost ran into a hysterical university student screaming at small patch of blood. The student pointed towards a service entrance to the sewers. Dave followed the trail to the metal door and then descended. The smell hit him first. The entry room contained two grates and led out to a T-junction. He searched the the floor for a trail to follow and found none. His quarry had not hesitated and had entered the water. Dave cursed for the third time. He had lost his quarry.

Lady Britania
Lady Britania walks into her office in the Dawn Patrol base. As designer of the base, Tania knew all the nooks and crannies better than anyone. Currently, she was preparing for a major addition to the base, adding some residential areas and a lounge. There was a list sitting on her desk from Chip of contractors who needed their clearances run to be able to access the base for the renovations.
Tania turns on the computer station at her desk and waits as it warms up.
"DOGMA online."
"Login: Lady Britania."
"Authenticate please"
"Autentication: Lancelot-03."
"Authentication verified. Good morning, Lady Britania."
"Good morning DOGMA." Tania brings up the security cams, noting several members roaming the base. "Anything I need to respond to?"
"You have a message from Crimsonstar, requesting an update on the status of the renovations."
"Send reply: Crimsonstar, renovations are on schedule to start...What the bloody hell?" Tania looks up as an alarm starts sounding throughout the base. "DOGMA! Base status?"
"Base status.... Intruders in the base, countermeasures ACTIVE..."
"DOGMA show me the intruders!"
"Working..."
Tania watches in horror as DOGMA brings up images of all Dawn Patrol members in the base. "DOGMA, those are not intruders, those are Dawn Patrol members! Deactivate countermeasures!"
"Working... unable to comply..."
"Dammit!" Tania types furiously, trying to get the countermeasures to power down. "Dammit, DOGMA deactivate countermeasures NOW!"
"Unable to comply."
"Bloody Hell..." Tania reaches down and pulls her Navcomm off of her belt and presses some options on it's screen. "Lady Britania to all Dawn Patrol members! ARTHUR-01 EMERGENCY! Base countermeasures have activated against Dawn Patrol members in the base and I can't get them to shut down! I need all available assistance immediately! I'm going to try and make it to the computer core and attempt a shut down there. Lady Britania out."
Tania places her Navcomm back on her belt, hovers up to the ceiling, and yanks off a ceiling panel, revealing an access tunnel. She enters the access, heading for the computer core.

Iron Goliath
Loni and Lily were seated in the breakfast nook of the apartment that Lily and Dave shared. Lily was finishing her herbal tea, while Loni was absently stirring her untouched caffè macchiato and detailing the fight on the roof a few buildings away. Loni had been hoping to speak to Dave, who was like some kind of Special Forces security guru or something, but Lily had explained that Dave had gone out earlier in the night and not returned.
"I'll see if I can get Dave back here," Lily said as she got up and checked Loni's nose again. The bleeding had stopped; nothing appeared broken. "Why don't you go take a nice shower and rest." Loni nodded and gave her friend a quick hug before heading to the room that she was staying in. Lily gathered the cups and saucers to the sink and watched her leave, concern in her eyes.
Loni had been asleep for maybe a half-hour when her comm badge began beeping from its place on her nightstand. Then she heard the frantic voice:
"Lady Britania to all Dawn Patrol members! ARTHUR-01 EMERGENCY! Base countermeasures have activated against Dawn Patrol members in the base and I can't get them to shut down! I need all available assistance immediately! I'm going to try and make it to the computer core and attempt a shut down there. Lady Britania out."
Rolling out of bed, she stumbled to the closet and grabbed her Dawn Patrol leotard. Loni called out for Lily, to see if the bald psychic had heard it, but only silence answered her. She tugged on her boots and slipped her gloves on, closing the seals. After fastening her belt, she ran out to the balcony and grabbed her rocket-board. Mentally kissing one Alexander Prage for his gift to her (again), she lifted off and was soon zipping across Paragon City, heading for the headquarters base of the Dawn Patrol.
Loni shut down her board just outside the hidden doors of the vehicle hangar where she stored her mech, Iron Goliath, among the Longbow Chasers. She opened the sully port door and slipped inside. Still new to the Dawn Patrol, Loni had no idea what Lady Britannia meant when she said that the countermeasures were active, other than that she could assume that the base defenses were powerful and that it would be Bad inside. As quietly as she could, Loni made her way down to the main parking floor of the hangar. She could see the bay where the massive humanoid figure of Big G stood, silent and impassive. Looking around (more because that's what people do on TV than because she actually knew what she was looking for), Loni began to creep across to her mech.
Suddenly, a pair of bright beams of coherent light lashed out from opposite corners of the room, intersecting where Loni was moving. One beam grazed her thigh, the other penetrated through her shoulder. Loni screamed and fell sideways, narrowly avoiding a second blast from the lasers. Sobbing with the pain, she pulled herself to a spot behind several crates of Chaser parts. She could hear the whine and feel the crackle of ozone as the beams lanced out around the hangar. Peering around the side of the box, she saw one of the lasers, mounted on a flexible arm, traversing the large open room, searching for her.
Then, to her horror, Loni heard the sound of another mechanical arm diectly behind her. She looked and saw the lens of a third laser pointed directly at her and knew that death had come for her; that she would be with her Mom and Dad soon. She squeezed her eyes shut and whispered a name "Alex..." just as the laser fired. But instead of a searing heat followed by oblivion, she was pushed backwards by the concussive force of something exploding. Opening her eyes, she saw the smoldering remains of a small robot laying directly in front of her, its chest cavity ripped open, the "eyes" in its metallic head meeting hers briefly before flickering and going dim. Tears welled up as she bemoaned the fate of Mini-G, Alex's little droid that assisted her with the day-to-day maintenance of Goliath.
The laser lens moved a few degrees, re-acquiring its target...........

Lights End
Alex was startled awake by the voice on the comms device. He stared at it for a moment, and then looked around the room, noticing that Loni wasn't around.
"What the... she must have left during my sleep." He said, realizing how insanely obvious that statement was as he said it. He stood up, threw on some clothes and grabbed his morpher as he leaped out the window onto his rocket board, and began flying towards the Steel Canyon base portal.
He arrived at the base in what seemed like mere moments, and was immediately greeted to a hail of lasers. "Damnit DOGMA! I'm a patroller!" He exclaimed as he tapped the morpher, drawing his suit onto his body from what seemed out of nowhere after diving behind a wall. He peeked out ahead, and could see his Mini-G creation laying there, with a nice sized hole in its chest, and not far from it, he saw what looked to be the legs of a female.
"Oh hell no.. Loni!" he exclaimed as he rushed back into the laser fire, taking a few countershots himself without any luck, before releasing a small level EMP burst out of his suit, knocking out the 2 closest sentries, and destroying his own beam rifle. He rushed beside Loni, sliding down beside her.
"Are you ok?!" he rushedly said. "We don't have much time, as that EMP I released will only incapacitate them for about 30 seconds while DOGMA repairs them." He looked into her eyes, with wonderment about what they were gonna do. He knew though, that he wouldn't let anything happen to her...

Iron Goliath
Oh, Alex! I'm sorry! I'm sorry that your little robot..." Loni sobbed through the pain from the cauterized wounds in her leg and shoulder. When Alex mentioned that the lasers would become active again in seconds, she looked at him and noticed that all the pretty indicator lights on his rifle were shut off. "Help me get over to G!"
Alex stared into her eyes. "Loni, you're in no condition to..."
"It's our only chance!" she cried, fighting down the fear that was roiling in her stomach.
"But you're hurt!" Nevertheless, Alex levered Loni up to her feet and supported her as she limped over to where the Iron Goliath stood. At a signal from her belt control, the rear hatch in the torso cracked open, splitting wide to allow her entry into the cockpit. Alex helped her in, then watched nervously as the hatch resealed itself, his last view of Loni with her head turned towards him, smiling even as she flipped switches and then inserted her arms into the bicep-cavities to grip the control handles. "Atomic batteries to power! Hydraulic muscles engaged! Iron Goliath...GO!!!"
The lens in the Goliath's chest began to glow, as did its saucer-sized "eyes". Small jets of emerald steam hissed out of various fittings and seams in the behemoth's body and limbs. Powerful fists capable of flattening a car pounded on the massive chest. The young man, seemingly so frail next to the armored leviathan, pointed at the arm-mounted lasers that were beginning to move again, seeking their prey. The head turned to regard Alex as the Goliath's vocoder crackled to life:
*bzztclick* GET BACK, ALEX! I GOT THIS! *clickbzzt*
Working the pedals located in the huge thighs, Loni guided the Goliath across the hangar floor, laser beams crisscrossing the room, leaving score marks in the mech's armor plating. As it reached out for one of the lasers, a bright beam struck its hand, severing one of the large iron fingers. Alex heard Loni scream from within the metal body, no doubt experiencing some kind of feedback from the damage. Then the hand closed around the weapon and sparks exploded from it as it was crushed into a mangled ball. Another beam struck the Goliath in the back, leaving a smoldering gash in the armor. It picked up one of the Longbow Chasers and held it like a shield as it lumbered forward. Using the small aircraft like a battering ram, it slammed into the wall, flattening the laser, its mechanical arm-mount, and a section of the hangar wall.
Loni heard a cry behind her as Alex hit the floor, scrabbling about on all fours trying to dodge the third laser. She hefted a piece of the Chaser's fuselage in one massive hand.
*bzztclick* GET AWAY FROM MY BOYFRIEND! *clickbzzt*
Flying across the hangar like a huge metal missile, the remains of the Longbow Chaser obliterated the final laser. Getting to his feet, Alex retrieved his rifle, but the expression on his face as he examined it wasn't good. He looked up at Loni in her man-shaped tank. "Let's go, the others are going to need our help..."

Scarlet Scorpion
She was just doing routing work when the alarms started blaring. The warning tone signaled intruders. Scarlet lept from her chair and raced toward the main hallway and was greeted with a war zone. Various Patrollers were dodging, running or hiding from a spectacular light show from the automated defenses. The regular staff was scrambling out of control to avoid the combat. It had only been seconds but the walls were scored with tracer lines burned by deadly defense lasers or the diverse super-powers of Dawn Patrol’s heroes.
But no sign of anyone who shouldn’t be in the base.
“Where are the …” Scarlet noticed a defense laser start to track toward her. Her eye widened as it dawned on her what was happening.
The laser activated, confirming Lady Britania’s warning. Scarlet was fast, but not fast enough. The coherent beam lanced through her left shoulder a few inches from her neck. The wound was immediately cauterized and the pain jolted Scarlet into action. She flew straight up, dodging another bolt. Extending her arms, Scarlet scooped the air as she brought her arms toward her chest. Thrusting her arms forward, the sonic grenade was thrown toward the turret. It landed, ripping apart the turret’s metal shell, but otherwise doing no further damage. The barrel scrolled upward and belched another bolt.
Scarlet anticipated the attack and fell to her feet. She ran to the machine as it attempted to correct its latest mistake. The Scarlet Scorpion was on the machine before it could fire again. Ducking under its field of fire, she reached into the guts of the turret though the hole her meta-abilities created. She pulled on various wires but the turret did not shut down. Scarlet clenched her fist and created a sonic cestus encasing her gauntlet. She punched into the mechanism. The turret stopped rotating but increased its rate of fire, creating a deadly barrier across the hallway.
She cursed under her breath then noticed parts of a Longbow Chaser sail across the hangar and crash into another turret, both becoming wreckage. In the few seconds she dealt with her threat, Patroller equipment was damaged or wounds were starting to take their toll.

Crimsonstar
A small two room house hidden deep in the Tahitian jungles of Bora Bora
Marsius slowly walked around the house. The main room was little more than a staging area for the large assemblage of computers and monitors that Dominic had set up to do his covert operations. He stole a quick glance at the second, small room. It was contained an old government issue Army cot, and a wooden table and chair.
“You’re not one for luxuries, are you Dom?” Marsius asked. He was about to turn back around when he noticed a battered purple backpack lying against the wall. He recognized it as the one Grace used to carry. Grace Courbier, code name Alumette, was once a valued member and officer of Dawn Patrol, and a lover to Marsius. That was until Dom, her former fiancée believed to dead, turned up alive and returned to Paragon City.
Dom saw that Marsius had grown silent and cocked his head around to see that he had spotted Grace’s bag. “She misses you. She never says it, but sometimes at night when the sky is really clear, she’ll stand outside and look up at the stars. She’s always loved nature, but she used to admire the beauty of animal, plants, the ocean, not the universe beyond. I’m sure she's searching for the Andromeda system among the constellations and remembering her time with you.”
Marsius turned away from the bedroom. “That’s all in the past now. What have you got?” he asked crossing over to Dom and this workstation. “I think I’ve gotten it cleaned up as well as I can.” Dominic said as he loaded the video file and played it on one of the monitors. He leaned back in his chair as it started to play “So, it DOES exist.” He said.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
A contingent of about two dozen Rikti stood on one side of long abandoned and forgotten building. A rather large and imposing looking Headmaster stood at the front of them. Facing the Rikti from the opposite side of the warehouse was General Brandt of the United States Armed Forces and a handful of Vanguard troops along with a collection of uniformed men and women of the Dawn Patrol.
“……Human organs…..parts……our own…..failing……” The Rikti Headmaster said.
“Yes, we understand your need. Do YOU understand that once this ‘trade’ is made, we expect all of you off our planet and all your technology, including that damned big mothership of yours, it to be taken away as well?” Replied a man Marsius didn’t recognize but who was dressed in Dawn Patrol colors.
The Rikti nodded. The man nodded to his left, directly into the view of the camera. “And that this is being recorded as part of the official record of this deal?”
Again, the Rikti nodded, as did the members of their delegation along with the human delegation at the gathering. “So we’re in agreement? We’re supplying you with…..’materrial’, to clone and regenerate your own decaying tissue in exchange for you leaving Earth.”
He turned to the delegation behind him. “General Brandt, you’re to carry out your operations tomorrow as planned.” He turned to the camera. “And Vanguard is prepared for their role in this mission?” he asked.
“We are.” Came an unseen, female voice.
“And where exactly is all this data going to be kept? It surely can’t remain in either our or your databases.” The man asked.
“We have a unit selected for that. You will meet them after the pact is solidified.” She replied. The view jostled and shook as the camera was being set down and slowly, Lady Gray walked out from behind the camera and joined came to the center of both delegations.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“Wait, what did you mean by your remark, ‘it does exist’? Dominic, have you always known about this and what exactly is this?” Marsius asked. Dom let out a long sigh, stood up and stared out the window.
“I’ve heard rumors of a lot things doing what I do. Some of them I quickly push to the back of my mind as I don’t like to dwell on them. This is one of them. Two years ago, I stumbled on a story about what really happened to Hero-1 and Omega Team. The official history is that they were valiantly lost during their mission.” He turned to Marsius “The unofficial history is that they were knowingly sacrificed to the Rikti.”
“What?” exclaimed Marsius.
“Vanguard intelligence had supposedly discovered weeks before the big assault the real reason the Rikti had invaded Earth. It was so they could capture and harvest human organs to replace their own dying bodies. Lady Jane and Vanguard had opened negotiations with Rikti officers to ‘arrange’ for them to easily obtain what they needed in exchange for getting off the planet.”
Marsius felt his legs go weak and sat down. “By Kairin’s Blood…”
“Vanguard had already struck their hellish deal when the assault plans for Alpha and Omega had come to light. Since Omega team’s agenda was already set to infiltrate the Rikti dimension, Vanguard quickly took control of it from behind the scenes and ensured from their end that they were to never come back.” Dom reached over to the table and picked up the video recorder Marsius had brought him. “There were several unconfirmed rumors that the final meeting between Vanguard and their Dawn Patrol puppets with the Rikti had been recorded, but no one was ever to find a trace of it. Until now.”
Marsius stood back up, pacing the room. “Why? Why would they do this? How could they sacrifice their own kind to do this? People they knew! Surely Vanguard had to know that this wouldn’t work?” Dom put a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. “Marsius, I need to you to focus for me, you and Dawn Patrol have bigger issues. “ he said.
Marisus looked up to him. “What do you mean?” he asked and Dom replied by holding up a small dark silver chip. “This was buried in the components of the video recorder.” Marsius knew immediately it was a tracking device.
“Is is active?” he asked Dom.
“I think you’d better assume it is.”
“I need to get back to Paragon City, the sooner the better.” Marsius said. Dom smiled and motioned for him to follow him. “Then it’s lucky for you I still have that transporter tech you insisted on Grace taking when she left years ago.” Dom said.
Perez Park
Alexandra Sommers, aka Northern Might did a slow loop over the small area of her neighborhood before descending to her apartment balcony. Her and Mars always made it a habit to do a few passes overhead when they came home. It not only put the other residents of their building at ease to know their superhero neighbors were home, but it served notice to the gangs out milling around in the streets to keep their noses clean. As she was about to land she heard a slight meow and saw their cat Oscar darting in between the legs of the lawn furniture.
“Hey furball, how did you get out?” she asked and then saw the patio door ajar. She barely heard the hiss of the projectiles as several concussive grenades hit her off guard.
Steel Canyon Victoria Hartwell heard the gunfire and explosions in the hall and the unmistakable sound of metal being rendered to shreds. She jumped off the couch preparing to face her attacks when the whole north wall collapsed in on her.

Battledog
Battledog applied a pair of plastic sutures to his arm. His injury didn't bother him. He knew, with his new accelerated metabolism, the wound would be gone in less then 24 hours. It had been a fruitless hunt so far. A minor injury and many wasted manhours of prep work down the tubes, literally. He made a mental note to add to the wasted hours tally as he glanced down at his outfit. The bottom half of the suit was covered in sewer filth. The stench was not pleasant. He pulled out his phone and started to scroll through apps. It blared to life in his hands.
"Oh hell!" he thought, "If its not one thing, it's another."
Dave went to pocket the device back, when the app controlling his hidden cams activated. The picture it showed chilled him to his soul. A full operations team was formed on the roof top of the building next to his home. He didn't recognise the uniforms on the small picture screen. He took off in a full sprint. His thoughts going to Lily, Jayson and Sam.
He knew he wouldn't make it in time.

Drive Train
Sheena slowly ambled away from the Portal Industries complex on Peregrine Island. Her "day job" as a troubleshooter for Portal (in her boss' words: You find trouble. You shoot it. Troubleshooter. Get it?) was starting to get out of hand and interfere with her time here in Paragon City. They had her sweep at least 6 different dimensions today, putting in extra hours, and with the time dilation present in Eta Phi 8-14, it felt like she had been on the job for weeks.
Looking off to one side of her visor band, she issued a command to her onboard transporter. "Canister, move to base and reconfigure for downtime." A confirmation tone sounded in her left ear, and soon after, the coruscating teleport energies brought her into the Dawn Patrol entry foyer, and a scene straight out of her nightmares.
Laser burns etched the armored walls of the welcome station, and bloodstains flecked the scene here and there. Sheena noticed the wrecked remains of one of the base's auto-turrets, its armored casing blown clean off, still firing blindly in the direction in which it was stuck, trying to burn a hole clean through the bulkhead. She barely had time to react when the other turret in the entry chamber swiveled to point straight at her. "The hell is..."
Before her exclamation could finish, a coherent beam of light shot out from the cannon. Her instincts raised a barrier of red lightning before she could form the conscious thought to do so, but even still, the powerful weapon burned her right shoulder plate badly. Dropping her bag and concentrating for a moment, Sheena pumped parts of her innate Mu energies into her kinetic converters, powering her legs to a blurring speed. In one fluid motion, she sprinted to the turret, stuck one metal hand down the barrel, and released a blast of crimson Mu lightning directly into the laser's internals. The weapon exploded with a satisfying BOOM. Looking about, she noticed a destroyed Longbow Chaser and more bloodstains in the hangar, accompanied by a huge amount of structural damage obviously not caused by the base defenses.
It was at that point her messages display opened on her visor. Bearing Arthur-01 priority, it should have showed up earlier, but she had yet to figure out how to recalibrate the visor to adjust to new dimensions faster. The message played in her earpiece: "Lady Britania to all Dawn Patrol members! ARTHUR-01 EMERGENCY! Base countermeasures have activated against Dawn Patrol members in the base and I can't get them to shut down! I need all available assistance immediately! I'm going to try and make it to the computer core and attempt a shut down there. Lady Britania out."
Sheena ground her teeth. "Thanks for the message, Lady B. Canister, scan and show me the quickest path to the control room!" The confirmation tone sounded again, and a bright line was displayed on the inside of her visor, visually guiding her directly to the base's control area. "Damn, gonna be more of these things there. I guess someone's gotta step up and put an end to this!" Tapping her commbadge, Sheena spoke into it. "This is Drive Train. On site and heading for the control room. I'm gonna see what I can do from there. Sorry, bosslady, looks like I might be chompin' more o' yer toys!" With another burst of red lightning, Sheena sprinted down the hall and to the control room.

Battledog
The Kinmount Residence in Steel Canyon
A slim female dressed in midnight blue and white exits the building, hops onto her hoverboard and takes to the sky. A few minutes pass before another slim female enters the building. "Target Alpha One aquired." "Hold until she has entered the target area one...First Team move into assault position. Position on the other targets" "Target Alpha Two is in target area one...forward bedroom. Target Bravo Two and Three are in target area two...living room." "Bravo One is still distracted?" "Yes, sir." "All teams set...go on my mark." ... ... ... "MARK!"
David Kinmount's Apartment
Jayson Kinmount and his girlfriend, Courtney sat on the couch with an almost empty bowl of popcorn between. Jay watched the TV intently as the Disney movie played. Courtney kept an eye on the screen has she read through her handwritten school notes. "You could totally take her." Jay said. "Who?" Courtney asked. "Mulan. You could definitely kick her butt." Courtney snorted. "No contest." She reached over and ruffled his hair. "Hey!" Jay exclaimed and then checked his watch, "Oh, gawd. It's so late...I guess, I mean early." "What?! My mom is going to kill me." "Oh, crap! What are we going to do?" Jayson started to get scared. Courtney couldn't hold her expression and burst out laughing. "Don't worry. I took care of it." Jay shot her an angry look that quickly softened to a half grin. "Oh, you." he wrapped his arm around her and drew her into a kiss. She returned the kiss gently and cuddled against his body. Jayson suddenly stiffened as a dim shout entered his mind. He stopped kissing and his face took on a distant look. Courtney noticed right away and looked at him. Beside the couch, the family German Shepard, Junkers, stood and started growling. Jayson rose, dragging Courtney with him. "Jayson? What's the matter?" He opened his mouth to respond as the flashbang grenades smashed through the windows. The apartment burst into blinding light.
Lily Zhang's Apartment
Lily entered her apartment and put the kettle on. Her walk had cleared her head a bit. The evening air had a tendency to do that to her. She placed some tea leaves into the bottom of a cup and placed it on the counter. She wondered over to the bedrooms and checked on the occupants. Her adopted daughter, Quasi, lay curled asleep in her bed. The other room was empty. Loni had left while she was out. She frowned and went back to the kitchen. Lily noticed her Dawn Patrol comlink on the table, blinking with a message. As she reached for it, a mental shout echoed loudly in her head. "Lily! Danger!....NO!" As the 'no' sounded, the flashbangs smashed through her windows and exploded into blinding light.
Several rooftops from the Kinmount Residence
David Kinmount, Battledog, landed in a roll on the roof. In the distant, he could see his home. He rose to his feet and ran across the rooftop. He could make out the dim figures of assault troops rappelling down the side of building. He knew he wouldn't make it in time. He glanced around at the other roof tops and spotted what he was looking for...the rear security team for the operations team. He angled towards it. As he yelled in his head for Lily, he hoped his mindlink with her would work at this range. "Lily! Danger!" Dave watched as the assault team threw their flashbangs at the windows, "NO!"
He watched as their apartments illumated with blinding light.
David Kinmount's Apartment
Jayson Kinmount tried to cover his face as the flashbangs went off. It was a useless gesture. He was blinded, deafened, and dazed by the exploding grenade. The assault troops followed after the grenades, swinging through the windows and landing in a crouch in the living room. Jayson blinded rapidly trying to clear his vision as the troopers roughly pushed him to the floor. He could hear Courtney cry out as she was pushed to the floor as well. He tried to focus his powers but felt metal cylinders slide over his hands and lock into place. He was suddenly cut off from his powers. A deep reverberating growl cut through the din. A cry of pain sounded out from the troopers as the growl became muffled. "Damn dog!" A solid thump was heard, followed by a yipping dog. "Junkers!" A knee pressed down on Jayson's upper back. "Shut up, kid. If you know what's good for you.
Lily Zhang's Apartment
The flashbangs went off, blinding, deafening, and dazing Lily. The assault troops smashed throught the windows and landed in defensive crouches. They troops moved quickly towards Lily, who focused her powers. She was more powerful and better trained with her telepathic powers than Jayson. Before the men could bind her, she mentally reached out and viewed the scene through their eyes. Seeing the troops approaching her, she lashed out with a mental scream. The closest men crumpled to the ground. The remaining men rasied their rifles. A small form dressed in a long t-shirt stumbled out of the bedroom. "Lily! What was tha...ahhhh!" Quasi reacted instinctively and blasted one of the men out a window with her power. The men turned and fired at the adoloscent. Their tasers connected with Quasi, shocking her to unconsciousness. Lily blinked and narrowed her eyes, as the taser rifles turned their aim back at her. She lanced out with her powers and took out the remaining troops. She quickly went to her unconscious daughter and check her vitals. Through the walls, she heard a dog yip and yelp. Lily lifted Quasi up onto her shoulder, exited her apartment, and headed to the next door.
David Kinmount's Apartment
Courtney groaned as the neural cuffs started to slide down her arms. She instinctively reacted with her abilities. The cuffs told her everything about themselves in a microsecond. She rearranged the cuffs mentally and they issued an electric charge to trooper handling them. His muscles all consticted at the same time. She opened her eyes and surveyed the room throught blurry eyes. With a mental shove, the neural cuffs on Jayson collasped into their component parts. The other troopers moved to prone girl, their rifles aimed at her. Jayson blinked. His powers were back. The scene he could barely make out was not good. Seeing the rifles pointed at his girlfriend, he reacted. He extended a telekinetic shield in front of her as the troopers fired. Courtney gasped as the taser blasts hit a dim yellow disk in front of her. She grinned, as she felt herself raise from the floor to her feet with the help of her boyfriend's ability. She looked over at Jay and smiled as she saw his eyes ablaze with psionic power. "Our turn!" she said as her black clothing turned into the primary colours of her uniform. Two of the troopers' rifles were yanked from their hands by Jay and swiftly floated into her awaiting hands. The rifles morphed and flowed into twin longblades, as the two teens launched into the now-startled troops. The battle took seconds as the troops were no match for the angry adoloscents. Lily entered the apartment as Jayson knocked the last trooper out with a telekinetically-powered punch. "Lily! Who are these guys?" Courtney asked as she branished her two blades. "I don't know, Prof....we're getting out of here." Lily responded to Courtney in her alter ego.
Several rooftops from the Kinmount Residence
Battledog elbowed the last of the security detail in the face, knocking the man's mask askew. The men were dressed in sanitised, gray unifits that hid their identities well. They were well-trained and fought well for non-metas. Dave looked towards his residence, searching for a sign of what was going on inside. He was sure he saw one gray dressed body get blasted out of Lily's place. The radios of the troopers on the ground suddenly crackled to life. "Second team, GO! The targets are still active. Send in the Heavy." Battledog spotted a crate on a rooftop several buildings away break open. A large robot unfolded itself as it became operational. It fired. Dave took off in a sprint.
David Kinmount's Apartment
The occupants of the two apartments shifted towards the door as the wall behind them exploded. Chunks of debris flew. Jayson raised his shield a second too slow, as one of the chunks clipped Courtney in the head. She slipped to the floor soundlessly. "Prof! No!" A large blue blast flew through the smashed windows striking Lily. She screamed in anguish as the blue energy played over her skin. A second wave of assault troops flowed through the exploded wall, firing their taser rifles as they came. Jayson mentally blocked them all and telekinetically began flinging them into the air. Lily staggered on her feet with Quasi's limp form on her shoulder. She began to send telepathic blasts at the approaching troops. A large metallic form rocketed into the window, increasing the window's size as it hit the wall. Lily switched to targets to the large robot now standing in the room. Her blasts hit it with little effect. "Jayson! We have to get out of here!" she yelled. Jayson looked around wildly, a trickle of blood flowing from his nose. He quickly assessed the situation. He took a deep breathe and drew on more of his abilites. He gestured and gathered up Lily, Courtney, and Quasi with his telekinesis. He formed a ball of force around them. Lily pounded on the wall of the sphere. "Jayson! What are you doing?" "This is the only way you will make it. Take care of Prof for me. Tell her...tell her I love her." He focused his will against the sphere, slamming it down. The ball smashed through the floor of the apartment into the next and continued through the next, and then the next. It continued until it reached the sewer system, then it rolled down the tunnels. Jayson looked up at the troopers and the robot, blood flowed faster from his nose. "You can't have them!" His abilities burst forth in a large blast. The robot flew backwards out of the building into the street. The troopers in the blast wave were blasted back into the shattered wall behind them. Their bodies crumpling with the impact. Jayson fell to his knees, his face covered in blood. He was so tired. Too tired to fight back as the taser beams hit him. He collapsed into unconsciousness.
Several rooftops from the Kinmount Residence
Battledog watched the robot launched itself into his apartment after firing its beam cannon. He heard an explosion and the continous firing of taser rifles. A large blast issued form the apartment not long after. It carried the power signature of his younger brother. He watched as the robot was blasted out of the apartment and into the street. Dave winced as he only heard three taser shots after that. The large helicopter passed overhead and flared in for a landing on the apartment building's roof. He ready himself. If his family was captured, he would fight to the last to rescue them. Even if he had to kill every last one of these bastiches to do it. He crouched low to make a leap to the next rooftop. He mental voice entered his head. "Dave! Help...in the sewers...follow my thoughts..." Lily's voice called to him as he reversed direction.
It took him a half an hour to reach them. He saw the unconscious Quasi and Prof laying beside Lily. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. She leapt up into his arms and hugged him as tight as she could.
"They got Jayson."
Dave broke.

PAX Lawbringer
Perez Park - Alliance Arms Apartment Building
Lawbringer was nervous. This next part was going to be tricky. It was critical that he manipulate the small delicate parts he was working with just so, or his current operation would end in disaster. With a sure hand he brought the connectors together. Timing was critical, he had to balance the parts with one hand, make the connections at both ends and then release the whole assembly carfully, ensuring that the weight of the connectors themselves didn't snap off the mounting he had earlier prepared for them. The connectors slid into the sockets designed for them and Lawbringer lowered his hands watching intently. With a chitter of relief it appeared that he had succeeded. The Lego scale model of Valor Bridge was complete!
Lawbringer looked about the spartanly furnished apartment. The single room that had a small kitchen nook in one corner and an open door to a full if underused 'bathroom' was a maze of Lego constructions, erector sets and several terrariums growing various odd and brightly colored fungi. Thinking of his current residence made Lawbringer feel conflicted.
The space and privacy the "efficiency" afforded allowed Lawbringer to further explore aspects of the technology and society of his progenitors around him without fear of embarrassment. Yet the fact he was housed here and how he was forced to leave the comfortable ductworks he had previously occupied inside the Dawn Patrol base itself was a memory mingled with sadness.
Two years earlier -
“Also upon review of your dossier, I am forced to agree with Vanguard’s initial assessment that your lack of specific knowledge of future events is best described as convenient at the very least; especially in light of your extra-curricular activities with this Ouroboros organization.”
Lawbringer had always marveled at the range of sounds his human progenitors could make vocally, especially in the various ways they spoke their common Anglish language. Even among those he called friend and fellow Patrollers it was astonishing to him. The clipped accents shared by Major Britain and Sergeant Darling, its brassy variant spoken by Lion-Hearted, the dry and clear southwest tones of Scarlet Scorpion, the slow southern drawl of Arliss, Daffyd’s lyrical undertones that bespoke of his Welsh ancestry, Alumette’s breathy soft French syllabics that countered perfectly both the clarion tones of Marsius and the low gravel voice of Stalking Shadow, even Skritchie’s up and down frenetic speech all had delighted him, until now.
Lawbringer realized too that he finally fully understood the idiom “dressing down” in all its uses. Despite being fully clothed in the deep blue and crisp white of his patroller’s uniform he had never felt more naked, even when going about solely in his own chitinous skin as was the norm among Hiveworlders. He felt as if he had been flayed open and his internal organs laid bare by the exactingly precise words spoken to him. Each was crisply, perfectly enunciated with a hint of English classist trill and a delivery made in such haughty clipped tones as to be a staccato that beat at his ego with every utterance.
“For YOUR foreseeable future sir, you will of course, curtail this association with them you understand.” Lawbringer’s red multi-faceted eyes glittered silently taking in the figure of Lady Jane. He had only seen her in person briefly at the short meeting where it was announced that she would be taking over personal command of the Dawn Patrol’s Paragon City branch. Although it had been mentioned that she would be doing a review of all the Patrollers individually, in the weeks since, Lawbringer had not been summoned to one. For that meeting she had been in a perfectly tailored albeit severely cut business suit, now her elegantly styled dark hair and fair complexion were at odds with the rest of her appearance. She had eschewed the standard Patroller’s duty uniform in favor of what appeared be older style Dawn Patrol leathers done in a pattern of black and lapis blue. On each hip a holster was tied down gunslinger style. She was clearly prepared for a mission in the field.
“I am in a state of understanding.” Lawbringer spoke as clearly and simply as he could in an attempt to avoid his voder’s tendency for mistranslation. Until now this impromptu berating conversation had been entirely one sided- hers. Lawbringer had merely been making his way to the HQ’s workshop area after arriving directly via teleport from a field assignment in Founder’s Falls. Lady Jane had been loitering near the entrance to the teleport bay obviously waiting for something until she had spotted him and pounced.
Lawbringer’s friend or foe sensors had alerted him to the presence that had quietly stepped up behind him during this exchange. The too polite cough for attention made the identification of the person a simple task.
“Yes Sergeant, is that my teleport beacon?” Lady Jane looked past Lawbringer to the HQ’s senior staffer, the ever formal Sergeant Darling. Since Lady Jane’s arrival his manner had become if anything even more stiff and proper. He stood at perfect ramrod straight attention just to the left and behind Lawbringer.
“Yes Ma’am!” He made a quick perfectly executed British salute and held out the small palm sized disk shape of a beacon. “Programmed with the coordinates in Oranbega you supplied ma’am.” Lawbringer made the quick assessment that due to the lack of an assembled team of Patroller’s that his new leader meant to embark alone. The Circle of Thorns’ underground city was perhaps one of the most perilous places Lawbringer had ever been. Few if any of Paragon City’s heroes voluntarily went there without backup. Lady Jane slipped the beacon into a small pouch on her gun belt and focused her full attention back on Lawbringer again, ignoring Darling’s return to attention stance. She opened her mouth to speak but Lawbringer interrupted her before she could take him task further.
“Apologies, but scenic Oranbega is a locale to be considered danger filled and not hazardless. A suggestion is spoken that care be taken and a full task force of Patrollers perhaps.” Lawbringer nodded for emphasis. “I am available to assist.” There was a cold quiet pause as Lady Jane’s eyes silted briefly and her bearing became even more erect.
“That will NOT be necessary.” She said icily “I am fully aware of the dangers present in Oranbega and I’ll thank you to keep your suggestions to yourself. As for you, MISTER Lawbringer, you will immediately requisition proper quarters.” Her cold anger was more obvious now. “Your lurking about in the ductwork represents a security breach of the highest order. A breach that, assuming a charge of espionage is not leveled against you, is actionable by expulsion from the Dawn Patrol, the withdrawal of your provisional citizenship and a revocation of your Hero status!” Lawbringer held perfectly still in shock. That he would comply was not in doubt but her out of proportion threats concerned Lawbringer. It might be best to subtly remind his leader of the esteem in which he held her.
“As you command Friend Lady Jane.” This had the opposite effect for some reason
“You will refer to me properly as MA’AM!” She roared back at him. “Do you under stand sir?” Lady Jane went on stopping on each word for emphasis. With a thought Lawbringer made an adjustment to his voder’s programming.
“It is crystalline clear, and shall occur as you are desirous Friend Ma’am!” Lawbringer did his best emulate Sergeant Darling’s salute and ramrod straight pose. Lady Jane threw her hands up in frustration and with an exasperated noise wheeled about and stomped off, her heavy boots ringing on the metal floor of the teleporter chamber. After a moment, both Lawbringer and Darling relaxed from their mutual attention stances. For a quiet moment they merely looked at each other. Darling cleared his throat softly.
“Ah, yes. Well.” He coughed politely again. “You have your assignment Patroller.” He looked towards the teleport bay briefly then nodded at Lawbringer and made as if to leave. Lawbringer stepped closer.
“Apologies, but your expertise with working paper is requested Friend Sergeant Darling.” Lawbringer’s voice was oddly soft.
“Yes.” Darling paused. “Yes of course. I have the off-base housing request forms in my office. I’ll be happy to help you with them-” The normally stoic man offered the briefest of smiles “Friend Pax.”
Perez Park - Alliance Arms Apartment Building
Lawbringer's fond memories were tainted by the knowlede that the same Friend Seageant Darling had later betreyed the leadership of the Patrol. He was never informed exactly what that breyal was but Lawbringer knew is was enough to send the unfailingly correct man to confinement. Lawbringers bittersweet reveries was shattered in an instant.
Lawbringer reacted instantly, activating his virtual particle generator and his Dawn Patrol uniform sprang into existance over his own chitin skin. He activated his secure comlink with a thought and also touched the control on his belt activating his emergency teleport link to the Dawn Patrol base.
"Leftenant PAX Lawbring is being inbounded to base immediately!"
There was no response on his comlink, infact it had just gone dead without even a carrier wave and the teleport field never formed around him. Lawbringer tried again with the same results. Possibly the same computer virus had locked out both coms and transport systems. He could still travel directly to the Steel Canyon base location quickly enough. Lawbringer opened the door of his apartment and stopped in midstride. There was a man waiting just on the other side of the door in a long drab trenchcoat and brimmed hat. Lawbringer knew this man and a thought flashed to ask him for aid.
"Friend Dark Watcher! A welcomed meeting has occured. May I ask you for aid? The Dawn Patrol base is beneath attack!"
The hat brim tilted up so that Lawbringer could look into Dark Watcher's eyes. Those same eyes narrowed purposefully
"I know the Patrol is under attack and not just at your base. I'm afraid that you, or I for that matter, won't be able to help them either. We need to have a chat Mr. Lawbringer."
Lawbringer took a step back in confusion and Dark Watcher stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
The stealthed helocopter that had landed on the roof of the Alliance Arms building took off, its mission complete. The target, another alien invader was aboard properly restrained. It returned to its home base at the Peregrin Island Vanguard Depot.

Crimsonstar
"I've set the coordinates for the base portal wing, assuming you all haven't redone the access codes." Dominic said as he prepared to transport Marsius back to Paragon City.
"No, I told you when you and Grace left that your Dawn Patrol access would always work and I was true to my word. You should be able to call up the transponder codes." Marsius replied.
"Okay then, and just so you know, this isn't an easy transport for my system. I don't have any way to recharge it's power core, so this is pretty much the last trip anyone's going to be taking with it."
"I appreciate it, Dom, honestly." Marsius said and Dom stood looking at him for long moments, then finally told him. "I know you do, good luck." and he powered up the teleporter system.
Marsius saw the inside of the small dingy house blur and fade out and slowly new shapes and sounds took their place. He arrived in the Dawn Patrol base, and all Hell was breaking loose. The automated defenses were sounding an intruder incursion in the base.
He opened his comm. Channel.”Tania, what’s our situation?” he yelled into his comm. Badge.
“Marsius? Thank God. The automated defenses have gone haywire, attacking our own people, be careful.” Marsius heard the a large metal clang echo through the halls as an access panel to the floor. Tania was entering the access conduit to the computer core.
He heard a separate alarm and realized his gauntlets were also going off, indicating the sensors at his apartment had been activated. Alex was under attack. “Alex! Alex, are you there!” he screamed, receiving no answer. “We’ve got other issues as well, my apartment appears to have been compromised and I can’t reach Alex. Indications are that we’re also being attacked in the open city as well.”
He dodged a laser from one of their automated turrets as it sliced a section of hallway out and quickly smashed it into several pieces with a well placed punch. “Sorry, but we’re going to lose some equipment. We need to get this contained and check on our fellow Dawn Patrol members and loved ones.”
