So as varied and diverse as the membership of the Dawn Patrol has been over the years, some of us may not recognize you from the name you use to sign up here at the forums. So if you would please, come on in here, Let us know who your Character(s) were in the Dawn Patrol, and approximately when you were a member. Thanks!
I will kick this off. My global was before and now Urbanknight, and my current Dawn Patrol characters are Lady Britania, Britannica, Bubblellusion, and Raine of Arrows.

I'm @one Hit Wonder and was on live, as well. I've been a member off and on since 2005, I think. RL stuff made me quit for various lengths of time, but y'all have never been able to get rid of me for good. My DP toons are One Hit Wonder, Color Guard, and Precipitation May add some of my new alts if I decide I like playing them. Oh, and I'm adding Wondie's twin sister, Stacey, once I decide which new hero name to give her.

Post by Xaddak on May 24, 2019 0:39:13 GMT -5
Hello, everyone. I'm Xaddak, and I originally joined the Dawn Patrol in ... I'm not sure exactly when, 2004, 2005? In real life, I was still in high school, now I'm 31, and married. At the time, I was the leader of a small (5 or 6 people) supergroup, and when Major Britain invited me to join the Dawn Patrol, he made me a Leftenant right away, as a way to compensate for giving up the top spot in my previous group.
I was reasonably active, or at least I think so, for a few years. My main character in the Dawn Patrol was Xaddak, who started life as a gravity/empathy controller, then an energy/energy blaster, and finally as a dark/dark defender, who I finally reached 50 with some years (yes, years) later.
I also had Drathe, a broadsword/regeneration scrapper, who was batting a thousand... at getting Endless One's blaster (I think blaster?) alt killed in duo missions. I don't think he ever hit 40, let alone 50.
The last hero character of note I had was Sarah Knight, who in my mind was the Dawn Patrol's liaison from the Paragon Police Department. As a member of the Awakened Division (that is, she's a Peacebringer), she was able to keep up with the heroes of the Dawn Patrol, and serve as the official point of contact between the two groups. In reality, I never took that story anywhere at all. It lived and died entirely in my head, never once did I type any of it out.
Redside, I had Lodena, who I think for a while was the top dog in the Twilight Consortium. She was a robotics/traps mastermind, she did hit 50, and she was basically Evil Xaddak - same Technology origin, more or less the same personality and sarcasm, but boy oh boy, did she hate the Dawn Patrol. After all, the Twilight Consortium and the Dawn Patrol are sworn enemies.
One thing that always bothered me quite a lot was that I named my main characters with my generic fantasy character names, instead of the types of names you'd expect from a superhero. Xaddak, Lodena, Drathe. It didn't fit.
For a while, I was the main (only?) base builder, but as my participation in the game faded, that role was taken away from me, and thank goodness, because I was just so, so bad at it.
I never really RPed, not for real. Xaddak, Lodena, Drathe - they were all basically just me, sometimes with a slightly exaggerated character trait. I think I posted once or twice in story threads on the old forums, but without even looking back at it, I can tell you it was all dumb nonsense.
I think it was around 2006 or 2007 that I really stopped playing with any regularity. Every now and then, I'd come back for a month or two, get my rank back, swank around a bit, and then vanish without a trace. It happened less and less, but it was always nice knowing the game was there to come home to. Mostly I'd come back to the double XP weekends, and spent a lot of time with Mero and Wondie running task forces and and missions while listening to the Cape until 4 - 5 AM, and then getting back out of bed a few short hours later to do it again for another 18 hours. We defeated a lot of Rikti together.
I think I was mostly known for being a defender who'd get the entire team but himself killed, TP everyone to safety nearby, TP Foe a single enemy in, and use dark's targeted mass rez to bring everyone back. It was fun for me, but earned a lot of XP debt for everyone else. I'd like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who put up with that bullshit.
When I heard the game was shutting down, it felt like I was gutshot. I sort of switched off emotionally for a few days. It took me a while to process the news. I re-activated my account, got a chance to play some more. I was in AP33, on the steps, with a torch, side by side with other Dawn Patrollers, and wearing my Dawn Patrol pin on my t-shirt, as the servers went down. I cried. I cried a lot. My wife (then, girlfriend) held me while I bawled my eyes out, and I was a moping mess for days. In a sense, I grew up with City of Heroes, even though I came home less and less over the years. I missed out on AE, I missed out on Praetoria, I didn't even know Galaxy had been destroyed until I created a character on Homecoming and was confused about why Galaxy was no longer an option for new heroes (I always liked Galaxy better than Atlas). The regret I feel for all of those missed moments causes me physical pain, thinking about so much lost time that I could have spent with my friends, with all of you.
One of the first things I did in Homecoming was to rename/retcon my characters. Xaddak is now and always has been Event Horizon. Lodena is now and always has been Hawking. Drathe.. sort of faded away, but in a sense, his spirit lives on in Dawn Knight, a broadsword/shield scrapper.
I just put up my first post in the Return to Paragon story, and... well, they say to write what you know, don't they? It's got more of the truth of my life in it than I'd really like to say.
So... hi. I'm Xaddak, and while I'm old school Dawn Patrol, I missed out on meeting a lot of you that joined over the years. I'm either too quiet, or I talk too much (for example, this stupidly long wall of text), and I'm misting up a bit as I type this.
I missed this game and the Dawn Patrol so much that it hurt. I still wonder if I'm merely dreaming that it's back, but if so, this is the best dream ever.
I'm glad to be home.

My global is @murphys lawyer. I played on Virtue since beta, although I didn't join up with the Dawn Patrol until fairly late in the game. My two DP characters were:
Freedom Prime - Eng/Eng blaster Vandal Spark - Kin/Elec scrapper
I've been running around Everlasting since they stood it up, and I'd very much like to get back in the swing of things with a proper group!

Hey all. I'm Ultranova. Usually Ultra for short in chat. Currently my only Dawn Patrol character is Ultranova, an energy/energy blaster/blapper. (My motto in combat is be aggressive, so generally I hang on the front lines, not in the back) I was with Dawn Patrol from 2005ish-2010ish. I met Alumette on a random mission or task force way back when and after hanging for a bit with her and some other Patrollers, I was invited in. I eventually was promoted to Leftenant. My various characters included Ultranova and Dawn Patroller within Dawn Patrol and innumerable alts outside of it. I also led the Twilight Consortium (as much as anyone does) for a while as Lars Krondorfer, plus Rofnarg and others on red side. (Again, with numerous other non-TC alts) Once I started grad school I had too little time for the game so I played much less. IRL I'm currently married, have a four year old daughter and two 9 month old twin boys, and work as a teacher. So life is busy, but I've missed this game deeply. My brother and I have often reminisced about various aspects of this game. There's really nothing else like it. I'm glad to be back.

Hello all. I wasn't part of Dawn Patrol before the shut down and certainly a newbie to the group. I played CoH beta where I captured the name Ra on Freedom and was grandfathered in when two letter names were locked out. While on that server I was part of The Forever Men and produced a screenshot driven comic of the same title. Eventually I migrated to Virtue for a better RP experience. Although support assured me my two letter character name would transfer, it did not. Support could not fix it because of the new coding and as a result, they unlocked Horus (it had been in reserve for the character that appeared in the physical City of Heroes comic) and gave it to me since NCSoft had abandoned the character. On Virtue I became involved with a coalition that included the SG's Dawn Academy and Fennic Enterprises, which was coalesced into a new Poser driven comic titled Dawn Enterprises. The comic continued until the game was shut down. Out of contact with most of the players who volunteered characters for the comic, I ended the title and started a new series titled The Crucible that I've been producing ever since. I arrived here after I ran into One Hit Wonder who I knew from The Cape. I own, operate and, with my limited HTML knowledge, squeak out the code for www.CoXComics.com. I'm currently working on building character analogues for a new comic title based on the Homecoming server. IRL I'm and elder computer geek (my first modem was a dial up 300 baud with a computer that used cassette tape to save and load files) married to my lovely wife for 19 years and work as a network administrator.

Greetings Dirtlings!
I'm glad to have been spotted by Scritchie. So I was PAX Lawbringer from around 2004 to shutdown and Mistress Mindlash in the Twilight Consortium- although towards the end I wasn't very active. I'm thrilled to see you all. I looked around for DP I really really did.

Hey everyone. Currently by Global is Shizcheva, but during live my global was @nukediva. Nuke was a member of the Silver Guard and when the Coalition of Awesomesauce (my name for it, don't steal it) was formed, I made a toon for DP, though at this point in time I can't remember her name. My current toons are Nukediva and Mecto Amore, with Mecto being in the DP. I've got a villain alt percolating in my brain if we open up the Twilight Consortium too.

Hello All
I was (am?) RoboMD, having joined Dawn Patrol after meeting MB (I seem to recall) in Atlas Park. Played the game for a good long while, pretty much always as RoboMD although occasionally as Sgt. Darling (still can't believe he's working his desk job). I aeem to remember I had an alt who was essentially Xaddack's clockwork pet, too, but I don't remember his name (the shame...)
Alumette was Robo's closest friend, probably, but he spent a lot of time with a lot of the gang. I'll freely admit I don't remember much of it though so please do gently remind me if we shared adventures.
Im based out of London, UK, and I got into CoH back when staying up nights wasn't an issue. In RL I had gone back to university in 2004, so I could spend hours with the gang. Once I graduated a job in banking in 2007-2009 made it impossible to keep up my CoH habit, and soon all I had was memories and the occasional visit from Alumette (who is a RL hero) to keep the myth alive.
That and I haunt EOs facebook profile a lot but don't tell her.
I always think about the CoH days, and being able to revisit the group is a dream come true. A real homecoming for a lost soul, you might say.
In my dreams, I used to fly.
