Hello all,
I would like to address some changes we have coming up for the Dawn Patrol. Well, its more along the lines of updates and revisions to a
lot of things, but the Officers believe that all the items I’m about to discuss will be a positive thing for the group moving forward.
We wanted to wait a while and see the state of Homecoming before we worried about making some of these adjustments.
So far everything is appearing pretty stable, so we feel confident moving forward with these changes at this juncture.
Inactivity Limits
First off is the topic of inactivity limits. Due to the fact that we weren’t quite sure how things were going, if the server was going to
last more than a week or two, etc., we suspended inactivity limits. Now we have a large portion of our roster with between 100-200 days of
inactivity. Our pre-shutdown limit was 30 days. On day 31 people were getting the boot. The Officers realize that all of us have years on
us now and don’t quite play as much as we might have before. But, we don’t want the numbers to get too high, then it could be a detriment
in recruiting, if a potential recruit sees a large amount of people who haven’t been around, what’s their first thought going to be? “Well,
maybe they aren’t going to have the rp that I need” and go somewhere else.
So, effective one week from today, our new inactivity limit will be 90 days. If by day 91, the toon hasn’t been moved to Surace (where there
are no inactivity limits) then they will be removed from the Dawn Patrol. As always, if a member leaves or is removed but in good standing,
they are welcome to return at any time with open arms. However, we will no longer be sending a notice to each player that they have been
removed from the group.
Rank upon removal from the group.
One thing that we will no longer be doing. If you are an officer (Sgt or above) and later return to the sg after being removed for inactivity,
we will no longer restore that person to their former rank. They will start off as a Patroller again and have to work their way back up.
There is one exception to this rule: Major Britain. We feel that as the "Founder" there never would have been a (player-run) Dawn Patrol without him, so if
he ever gets to the point of being inactive, he will never be removed from the Dawn Patrol or have his rank stripped from him.
Alternate character limits
One thing we are also re-instating is alt limits. Members are allowed one main character and up to seven alternates in the Dawn Patrol. Any other
alts will have to go into Surace or one of the other affiliated sg’s; Honor Society or Expeditionaries.
Re-designation of the Dawn Patrol
Back from well before pre-shutdown to now, we’ve always described the Dawn Patrol as a light to moderate rpsg, who allowed anyone to join, whether
they rp or not. After a long discussion, we really don’t feel this description fits us, even before the shutdown. We have welcomed in non-rp’ers in
the past and they’d stick around for a month or two, then leave. Not because we didn’t make them feel welcome or wanted, because we did everything
we could to help them fit in with us. The main issue is that the people themselves realized “Hey, an sg that does this much rp just isn’t the right
fit for us.” They like us, they stayed friends with us, but moved on to other sg’s that fit them better, and that was a good thing for them. So, moving
forward from this point, the Dawn Patrol will be designated as an rp-heavy supergroup.
Items pending
We do have a few more things pending that we are working on. Obviously we will be updating the rules section to accommodate these updates. We are also
currently reviewing the rank requirements for promotions, seeing if there’s any updates that we can do to them.
The last thing that we are working on is a new application/biography form for the Dawn Patrol. This is almost ready and just needs a few more tweaks before
we release it for use. This is something we’re doing to go along with the re-designation of the sg, to help members flesh out their characters in more detail
as time goes by and they develop them. The form will consist of two parts. The actual application part (Part 1) and the details expansion (Part 2). Part
2 will not be required to be filled out upon applying. By all means, if you have some of the information worked out in that section already when you
first create the character, then please go ahead. But this section is primarily meant to be a “go back and fill out later” as you expand upon your
character. We hope to release this new form in the near future.
If you have any questions about these new updates, please do not hesitate to seek out one of the Officers and talk with us. Thank you.
