The school year had ended, those students who were leaving had gone, leaving behind only those who made the dorms their home. It was a peaceful night, the only ones still awake were those who had night-time activities to keep them up.
Then a piercing, terrified scream came from one of the rooms on the girl's side of the dorm. The door to Akiko's room was slightly ajar, and shadows spilled out through the gap like an amoeba, along with ragged sobbing.
(Open to participation by anyone who might be in the dorms at those ridiculous dark hours of the morning when sane people are sleeping.)

Damien frowned. The scream had been loud. He took a sip of his coffee and got off the couch. He looked around the lounge but nothing looked out of the ordinary. He looked over at Lily and she shrugged.
"What the hell was that," Damien asked.
"No idea," Lily replied. "Sounded like it came from the girl's dorm side."
Damien picked up the remote and shut off the television. Together he and Lily walked over to the girls dorms. They paused and looked toward the door of Akiko's dorm room. Damien frowned when he saw what appeared to be living shadows and heard sobbing.
"Must be a nightmare," Lily said.
"Yeah," Damien said. "Those shadows look pretty interesting though."

A Japanese girl, wearing nothing but a bed sheet and a small black heart pendant, was huddled in a corner of the room, atop the remains of a bed, staring around herself with her eyes wide in terror.
She clutched her pendant with the hand that wasn't holding the sheet up, and the room got dark enough to completely conceal her. When the darkness faded, the girl looked as if the color had drained out of her: her hair had gone from black to gray, her skin looked as if the color had been leeched out of it, and she was wearing a faded gray outfit that looked as if it had been dragged through a shredder, leaving barely enough fabric intact to keep her from being arrested for indecent exposure.
She looked around the room with a drained expression and buried her face in her knees.

Damien shook his head and mentally berated himself for what he was about to do. He stepped closer to the door and leaned toward it a bit.
"You okay in there," he called. He figured he wouldn't get a response anyway. So it wouldn't really matter that he asked. He was trying to be nicer to other people. But sometimes it felt like such a waste of time. Still, he figured the more he did it the easier it would get....maybe.

Oh shit. Someone heard. Sailor Null lifted her head and looked toward the door. "Hello? Uh, sorry. I didn't wake you, did I?" She rolled off the bed onto her feet and started toward the door, the shadows pulling in to form a cloak around her, making her outline indistinct in the darkness and covering her in a cloak of fear strong enough to make a newly-spawned yoma freeze in terror as she approached. She looked out the door and froze briefly when she saw a boy, until she saw he had a girl with him. "I'm sorry. I didn't, I mean..." She sighed and leaned against the door frame. "Kuso."
