Chain Lightning
D/O/B 2/16/83
Height 5’8”
Weight 160
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Black
Skills: Business and finance, chemistry.
Powers: Super speed. Limited molecular control allowing him to be invisible. This also allows him to lend his speed energy to others granting them a temporary invisibility for a limited time. He can attain the speed of light and beyond, but avoids doing so as breaking this speed plunges him into the time stream and he no longer has control of his speed causing him to be effectively ‘lost’ in time. Return trips from having broken the time barrier result in lengthy hospital stays for exhaustion.
Aaron Sterling is the heir to Sterling Wonder, a chemical company started in the early years of the 20th century by his grandfather, Alexander Sterling. In the late 1950’s, his father, Damon Sterling was given control of the company after Alexander had built Sterling Wonder as a leader in the production of chemical additives, preservatives and fertilizers for the majority of the U.S. Aaron, fully expected to take over the business, was sent to the best private schools and late Paragon University where he excelled in both chemistry and physics. He was praised by his professors as having a natural proclivity to the sciences and expected to be a leader in the field once he graduated.
However, his father, Damon, never saw the knowledge his son exhibited. The Sterling men lost the love of their live, Tania Sterling, wife and mother, during a violent hurricane on a family vacation to Tahiti. Aaron and his father were torn apart emotionally. This family, which once took lavish family vacations and trips together, became two men with different goals. Damon threw himself into Sterling Wonder to further establish it as the premier chemical company in the world. Aaron submerged himself into the literature of the fantastic. Aaron often visited his mother’s gravesite, carrying a stack of comic books, or a novel by Heinlein or Asimov. His mother when alive, used to share with Aaron stories of the amazing read to him from the Brothers Grimm, or Maurice Sendak when he was little, and as he entered his teens he continued to share the realms of the imagination with her by reading to her, confident that she could see and hear him from beyond. Aaron’s favorite comic adventures revolved around a superhero that knew no limits of speed. He could race across the Earth over water as well as land, run up the falling shards of a broken window, traverse the time stream all while appearing to be nothing more than a blur of red in peoples vision.
It was while on a requested visit to the Sterling Wonder home plant in Paragon City that Aaron’s life changed forever. His father insisted that Aaron spend less time with his head buried in comics and novels and familiarize himself with the workings of the company. They were touring a wing where the majority of the chemical compounds where stored when a cable on a crane loading a pallet of barrels snapped and they hit several other pallets that sent a toxic tidal wave over Aaron. Aaron’s last thought as his body was wracked with pain was of his favorite speedster comic character thinking, “HE would have super sped out of here before it even hit him.” The accident didn’t kill him as his subconscious mind, acting on what his conscious mind already knew, that death was imminent, took over his body’s functioning and in a miracle of medical science, convinced his body to reprogram itself and use the new pollutants to hyper accelerate his metabolism. He soon found himself possessing the same power he had fantasized about all of his teen years.
