Stacey stared at the doctor for a moment before she said, "That's impossible."
The doctor laughed, "Impossible or not, it's true. You're pregnant. I assume Leftenant Kinmount is the father?"
Stacey nodded, too stunned to speak again. The doctor turned to a nurse and instructed her to contact Dave and have him come to the medbay. "We'll do an ultrasound to confirm and see how far along you are." He had her lay back on the hospital bed as he got the ultrasound equipment ready. "Ah, there we go, see that?" He pointed at the monitor, while Stacey stared in shock.

Dave flipped the phone onto his desk after getting Skot's most recent report on Sidney Martin. The f'ing douchebag was living it up in St. Martial. He had a constant stream of booze, drugs, and hookers delivered to him and Skot was getting bored... which was probably the point. Make his tails so bored with his routine that they get lax. Dave gave Skot a 'good work' and a Charlie Mike. He tapped a few keys on his computer to transfer some discretionary funds to his friend and teammate.
His internal phone rang and he picked it up to hear the voice of one of the nurses from the base's medical facility. “Leftenant Kinmount, the doctor asked me to call you. We need you to come down the medbay, Miss Ashton is here...” Dave didn't wait to hear anymore or even hang up the phone. He triggered his innate flying ability and tore out of his office. His desk and reports went flying as he zoomed to the elevators.
"MOVE! Clear a path!" he shouted as he passed through the halls. He touched down at the entrance of the medbay and stomped inside. "Where is..." he asked and got cut off.
"Third room on your left, Leftenant." the greeting administrator spoke.
Dave rushed down the hall and into the room. Stacey was reclined on a hospital bed as the attending physician guided an ultrasound wand over her exposed belly. The screen showed a murky grey picture of two circular objects. "Ahhh, Leftenant, may I be the first to congratulate you. Meet you daughters." the doctor smiled.
Dave's jaw dropped. He turned his head to Stacey. She watched him closely with happy tears in her eyes. His mouth moved but didn't emit any sound for a few seconds. He moved over to the bed and took Stacey's hand.
"But I thought you..."
"So did I."
Dave's mouth continued to flap. Stacey's face took on a look of concern. "Speak to me, Dave...please."
Dave stared deep into her eyes as he gently stroked her cheek. "This is... is... unbelievable! Your wish, your dream is coming true, Beautiful. I am so damned happy, I can't believe."
Stacey dragged his mouth over for a kiss, putting all her emotions into it. Dave returned it just as fervently.
"I know. I'm the same." Stacey replied her tears still flowing.
Dave rested his forehead against her as he continued to look deep into her eyes. He licked his lips.
"Marry me."
Stacey stared at Dave, speechless. Her head was still reeling from the unexpected news. And now he'd asked her to marry him. Dave began to worry as she didn't say anything for several moments. "Stacey?"
Stacey swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure I love you. That's all the reason I need." he answered, "Because my dream is to make you happy. I know I'm not rich, or handsome, but I want to part of your life for as long as I can. I love you, Anastacia Ashton, and I wish you to be my wife." He blinked away the tears forming and continued to look at her, searching for some clue as to how she felt.
Stacey reached up to wipe his tears away, even as her own eyes welled up. "You are handsome, and I love you, David Kinmount. So much. I will probably be a terrible wife, but I'll try."
Doctor Hassan Albarrak looked at the couple and smiled. It was times like this that made being a physician worth it. These two people obviously loved and cared for each other so deeply. Their daughters will be welcomed into a loving family. He stifled a sniffle and adjusted the ultrasound wand to the optimal angle. He motioned to Nurse Prescott who printed out a copy of the image on the screen. He watched Prescott wipe a tear from her eye as Dave reached into his pocket and withdrew a small velvet box. Hassan smiled again when he realized that the Leftenant had been thinking about this before the unexpected news reached him.
'Yep, this man loves this woman.' he thought as he and Nurse Prescott watched the young man slide the ring onto Stacey's finger.
