Hello, all. I wanted to provide as much information as I could on the enemy that caused the incident leading to my arrival on Earth, in case this entity rears its head again. And my connection to 'him'.
The Changer is an extra-dimensional conqueror, invading one universe after the next, capable of subtly altering the reality itself as he gains more influence and power. At first this is all bent to taking over the native civilization, enhancing what his technology can accomplish - apparently his native domain and whatever the fully conquered domains turn into is filled with alien, alternate physics that don't translate well to new ones. This requires him to adapt, work within the confines of the new rules to progressively forge a custom, hybridized technology, with integrated contributions from the existing native civilization.
He doesn't easily get a foothold in the first place, usually. It starts like some dark god making promises of power in dreams and whispers, then with belief comes a clearer voice, and with that comes a fulfilling of those promises - power, transmutation. Knowledge of the methods to gain it, if experimental at first. The price is always, quite simply, free will. Soon he has a small cadre of powerful slaves seeking to spread and cement his influence.
This happened to my civilization, Ganehyde, if it can be called mine. A mostly-unified space-faring species, the Ganehydans had slowly expanded across their galaxy. It was in a remote, beleaguered colony that The Changer planted a seed. At first, a failed revolution - in the desperation after came the temptation, well-hidden at first. By the time the horror was revealed, he had already established the foothold he needed.
What followed was war. Half a century of it, and it is still going, The Changer slowly winning, slowly perfecting his craft and becoming impossible to match. Shortly before coming here, I heard of one our strategic, primary worlds, Hanaterras, falling to his forces, led by the 14th iteration of his avatar. The first he'd ever went to war directly with on Ganahyde, and apparently unstoppable.
Around 26 years ago, when The Changer had only began to turn the tides his way, he decided to experiment with native Ganahyde mutations, aiming to produce a hunter and all-around Special Operative. Through biogenesis (nano-technological construction of a fully-formed organism, generally partially artificial) he produced an agent with the rare mutant trait of Probability Manipulation. That would be Yours Truly. I was brought into the fold of what he calls The Transmogriate, his 'multi-dimensional utopia'. I never felt pain, doubt, or questioned the will of the greater vision. 'I' wasn't really 'me', but I still have the memory.
I was set on the forces of Ganahyde, tracking down People of Interest and extracting them back to the labs of The Changer for transformation, integration, conversion. Hundreds of them changed from tooth-and-nail adversaries to fanatical comrades. Over time, it got harder, my assignments thinned as The Changer had greater difficulty finding missions that were viable. Maybe I was becoming obsolete, maybe I was running out of soft targets. Regardless, my last mission for him was one I failed. I got captured.
Instead of executing me like the leadership wanted, the psychic that defeated me campaigned successfully to try 'converting' me. A novel idea, for a number of reasons, but the programming in my head wasn't anything to sneeze at, on top of decoupling me from integrated biological and cybernetic Changer-tech. It took months, but, it worked. Free will installed - battery not included. Eventually, after being an 'information' source for years, they cleared me as an operative, albeit well-supervised.
So I became a soldier against the forces of my former master, leading up to today. Most of that is my personal history. The events of a few days ago are the pertinent parts.
My partner-in-arms (Shiftfaze) and I were finishing up with an enemy take-down when I noticed he was wounded. The wound turned out to be an injection of enemy nanites, or a 'nanovirus', custom-designed for a gradual, complete takeover, mind and body. I ended up in a struggle with him, trying to subdue him, to not much avail. With the last bit of desperation for his own control, Shiftfaze activated a latent capacity of his dimension-manipulating mutant powers which transported him to another universe, to eliminate the threat to his own people, with me hitching a ride. To Earth.
He arrived first and when I arrived, he wasn't there, and little trace of where he went. I needed help tracking him down. Using my own tech I found an emergency comm channel that belonged to The Dawn Patrol, through which I was able to get in touch with One Hit Wonder. The DP assisted in tracking, and we took a small team down into the sewers where he was hiding. I knew he could escape, but I gambled on the temptation of taking me and whoever else captive. The gamble payed off and we managed to subdue him, and I injected a counter-agent.
The counter-agent nano is like a blunt instrument, with every minute after infection being critical - it worked but the enemy nano was too integrated already, and Shiftfaze's brain got damaged and wiped. Some of your people are working on that. To their credit, there's a chance for him, it seems.
Worried over The Changer's indirect contact with Earth, I've been investigating for traces of his influence, from the nano-tech or otherwise. I managed to get a sample of the nanites - the dead kind - a few of them that apparently malfunctioned, got neutralized, whatever, and this has been delivered to Aion for study and analysis.
I've passed on this info due to the danger of extra-dimensional invasion. Please do pass it up whatever chains you feel you need to or that could benefit. If it gets me in hot water, well, so be it. For any further information, feel free to email or otherwise contact me as desired.
Thanks,
Dax
