Vigilance (the leader of The Protectorate) and I have been talking with each other and our officers about two similar but specific styles of roleplay: Heroes Who Are People and People Who Are Heroes. In short, Heroes Who Are People focus on being a hero first and foremost while People Who Are Heroes focus on being a person first. While I believe there is absolutely room for both styles in both of our supergroups, we have decided, going forward, to focus our group RP on one style. The Protectorate will be focusing on Heroes Who Are People while The Dawn Patrol will be focusing on People Who Are Heroes.
This may seem a bit surprising, as if you look at The Dawn Patrol of game lore you might conclude that we are Heroes first and foremost. And that’s probably something that initially draws people to the group. And I am not saying that we aren’t. However, I feel that with “The Dawn Patrol” under your name, everyone immediately knows you are a hero. You are part of a prestigious and lore-based supergroup. Our exploits are likely often in the local papers and media, as well as in national and international news. Therefore, we as a group can focus our RP on the people behind the heroes.
I’ve always said that The Dawn Patrol is a family and I, as One Hit Wonder, am more “Team Mom” than “Field Commander.” Our unofficial motto is “Work Hard, Play Hard.” We take our jobs as heroes very seriously, but at the end of the day we like to unwind and be “just people” hanging out at Cape Radio shows or in our base or at the home of one of our members. We get together for parties and backyard barbecues, weddings and baby showers, birthdays and anniversaries, and other “normal people” events.
This does not mean that we will stop doing missions and task forces. Far from it. I encourage you to seek out your teammates whenever you wish to run radios or a mission arc or a task force. We will continue to do our Task Force Sundays. We’ve been trying to get Mission Mondays going as well. In general, I would love to see us teaming up more often whenever people are around.
What this does mean is that our focus for RP nights and events will be more on our personal stories and arcs that affect us all on a personal level. We will be investigating if there really is “something in the water” at the base that has been leading to all these pregnancies lately. We’ll be helping our members find and deal with their archenemies. We’ll be exploring our backgrounds and what brought us to become heroes and to join The Dawn Patrol in the first place.
So if you have an idea for a story you would like to explore, please reach out to me and the other officers and we’ll help you bring it to the rest of the team. If you need help creating an AE arc, we have a few officers that have some experience with it and would love to help you. If you want to start up a forum RP, we’ll help you with that. If you’d like to provide a theme or focus for an RP night, I’m all ears. And if you have any questions, please bring them up with me.
Looking forward to our future stories!
