Biography
Note: this is a retcon. My previous main character was Xaddak, who was originally a gravity/empathy controller, followed by I think an energy blaster, and finally a dark/dark defender, which I took to 50. Xaddak has never been anything more than my gamer handle, and was a truly inappropriate name for the character. To make matters worse, I never really had a backstory for Xaddak, or even an actual non-hero name. The closest I ever got was that Xaddak and Lodena (which is a name I use for female characters in games, and my villain main, a robotics/traps mastermind) were somehow linked. I've finally taken that idea and run with it. Xaddak is now Event Horizon, and Lodena is now Hawking. For the purposes of RP, Xaddak has always been Event Horizon, and Lodena has always been Hawking, and this has always been their backstory, because frankly, naming my main characters Xaddak and Lodena was pretty stupid.
On Primal Earth, Aion Arcturus was a respected physicist working at Portal Corp, alongside his equally talented sister, Aurora Arcturus. As a part of their research, they had constructed a device that they hoped would be an improved version of the core technology that Portal Corp uses. Aurora stood by the device, ready to activate it. Aion sat at a desk nearby, taking notes and monitoring readings on several displays.
Meanwhile, in Dimension Gamma Delta 98-6, Aurora Arcturus was a respected physicist working at Portal Corp, alongside her equally talented brother, Aion Arcturus. As a part of their research, they had constructed a device that they hoped would be an improved version of the core technology that Portal Corp uses. Aion stood by the device, ready to activate it. Aurora sat at a desk nearby, taking notes and monitoring readings on several displays.
The two identical devices activated simultaneously, and formed a highly energetic and unstable portal between the two dimensions. It is suspected that the dimensions exhibit a kind of “magnetism”, and it is for this reason that Primal Earth’s pull overpowered that of Gamma Delta 98-6. Aion and Aurora from Gamma Delta 98-6 were pulled through the portal into Primal Earth.
Aurora from Gamma Delta 98-6 found herself thrown into a collision Primal Earth Aion, and likewise, Aion from Gamma Delta 98-6 collided with Primal Earth Aurora. The two sets of siblings had only a handful of seconds to collect themselves, and before they could realize what had happened, the portal collapsed. The collapse sent a shock wave of the massive energies used to rend a hole through time and space back into the prototype device, which exploded.
Primal Earth Aurora and Gamma Delta 98-6 Aion were next to the device, and were immediately killed by the blast. Their bodies were half incinerated and flung against the wall of the laboratory, where they both collapsed into lifeless heaps.
Primal Earth Aion and Gamma Delta 98-6 Aurora, on the other side of the lab, suffered only minor burns, bruises, and scrapes as they tumbled backward from the explosion. As they regained their senses and collected themselves, they began to realize what had happened - their siblings were dead, and yet, here in front of them stood somebody who looked very much like that sibling.
Both Aurora and her alternate dimension twin had always been temperamental, quick to anger and blame. The remaining Aurora immediately flew into a rage, blaming the incident and the death of her brother on her not-brother and his fallen sister. Grabbing a nearby piece of fallen monitoring equipment, Aurora began bludgeoning Aion and screaming her raw fury at him. Before she could do any real harm, Portal Corp security arrived, and despite the destruction and confusion, they were able to assess the situation, which ended with Aurora led away in handcuffs.
Aion found himself unemployed in short order. Between the damage caused to the facility, and the death of a co-worker - his sibling no less - Portal Corp had every reason to cut him loose. But he was still a knowledgeable physicist, and now jobless, he decided that although he could not save his sister, he could help others. He re-engineered and refined the technology of the destroyed prototype, and created wearable devices that allowed him to warp space and time in a limited, local scale. He chose the name Event Horizon, the boundary of a black hole beyond which not even light can escape. He registered with City Hall, and began his career as a hero.
Meanwhile, the duplicate Aurora was far too clever to keep in an ordinary prison. She broke out in a manner of days, and without any contacts or resources in this familiar yet alien city, she decided to flee to the Rogue Isles, where people ask far fewer questions. From there, she remains determined to build her might, return to Paragon City, and get her revenge on the person now known as Event Horizon. She chose the name Hawking, after Hawking radiation - the only thing that can escape from the event horizon of a black hole.
